Maintaining oral hygiene when caring for a person with dementia is extremely important to the overall health and wellbeing of the individual. Poor oral care can lead to dental caries and mouth ulcers, causing pain while eating. From the mid stage of the dementia journey onwards, episodes of confusion may begin to make normal grooming routines a stressful or fearful experience, causing them to physically react by clamping their mouth closed. A simple act of brushing teeth can become a struggle.
Using the Bedi Finger Shield can help you to, gently, keep the mouth of the individual open, allowing you good access to properly clean their teeth. You simply slide the Bedi Finger Shield, securely, onto your finger. Then, place the shield between the teeth of the individual and begin brushing, with their toothbrush, as you would normally.
The shields are available in a pack of 2 or a pack of 12. They are easy to clean and are reusable for up to one month meaning that the pack of 12 is a year’s supply.
